The key to helping someone who may be suffering with their mental health is understanding what it can look like and then being able to support and help that person. Good mental health is a key part of overall wellbeing.
According to the Mental Health Foundation, one in five people are experiencing mental health issues so that means there’s more than likely someone in your team who could be struggling with some form of mental health issues.

How Can You Help
Let’s Be Up Front and Honest
One of the most effective ways to support someone showing signs of poor mental health is to create a space where they feel safe, heard and free to speak openly.
Building trust and showing that it’s okay to be honest can make a huge difference.
A great approach to take is by sharing our own experiences and how we’ve managed those struggles. Showing vulnerability is a strength. When we show up and share we give others permission to do the same. This openness not only strengthens connections, but also helps others feel less alone and more supported. It’s important to take an empathetic approach.

Work Life Balance
It’s essential that we support people in taking leave or time off when they need it.
Booking time out time to rest and deal with what’s happening without guilt helps remove unnecessary pressure and plays a key role in maintaining good mental health.
They will return to work more focused, engaged, happier and productive. Some organisations have introduced mental health days to encourage their teams to prioritise wellbeing. Taking a more proactive approach around mental health creates a safer and happier work force.
